MRE/Electricity Sources

Our Electricity is from Maine

MRE works hard to ensure that the electricity we supply to our customers is generated within the State of Maine. Since most, if not all, of our electricity comes from Maine, your dollars do not flow directly to OPEC countries. Rather, the money you spend to purchase electricity stays in Maine to create jobs for Maine citizens. This helps support the Maine economy. At the same time, we are increasing our nation's energy independence by using renewable energy and not fossil fuels that are imported from potentially unstable regions of the world. MRE supports the environmental adage - Think Globally and Act Locally.

Given weather conditions and the lack of wind generation in Maine, we are not able to guarantee that 100% of our electricity is Maine generated. We do commit to our customers, however, that as long as Low-Impact Hydropower Institute (LIHI) certified generation is available in Maine, we will provide this electricity to our customers.
